'''John Sheppard''' est un officier de l'[[US Air Force]] et, depuis [[2004]], un membre de l'[[expédition Atlantis]], commandant du contingent militaire la plupart du temps.

== Biographie ==

John Sheppard est né au sein d'une famille aisée, fils de [[Patrick Sheppard]], un magnat des finances. Dès l'âge de quatorze ans, son père avait déjà planifié sa vie. Cependant, Sheppard avait d'autres projets et voulait rejoindre l'[[US Air Force]]. Ceci a fortement perturbé sa relation avec son père et ils ne se sont plus parlés depuis, laissant son frère, [[Dave Sheppard]], prendre sa place. Il a mentionné qui avait été à l'[[université]] et admis à l'examen [[MENSA]] {{cite|ATL|SGA-1x16|SGA-4x12|SGA-4x15}}.

Après son éducation, il joignit l'[[US Air Force]] et participa à plusieurs missions top secrètes, notamment en [[Afghanistan]], mais il a aussi visité tous les continents, excepté l'[[Antarctique]]. Afin de pouvoir visiter ce dernier continent, il fit un stage pour devenir un pilote pour les hélicoptères terrestres du type Apache, [[Black Hawk]] et Cobra, ainsi que les V-22 Osprey et les chasseurs [[F-16]]. Il a été marié à [[Nancy Sheppard]], qui travaillait à la [[Sécurité Territoriale]] à [[Washington]]. Cependant, à cause du fait qu'il passait la majeure partie de son temps dans des missions secrètes, cela contribua à des tensions dans leur relation de couple et ils divorcèrent {{cite|ATL|SGA-3x09|SGA-4x15}}.

Lors de l'une de ses opérations, il fut porté sur la liste noire en allant faire une mission de sauvetage officieuse pour sauver les vies de trois militaires. Une autre mission officieuse consista à sauver la vie de son ami le capitaine [[Holland]], qui a eu son Apache crashé en [[Afghanistan]].
